Ictinos, 1934

Ictinos, 1934

Augusto Giacometti (1877–1947)

About the artwork

The painting “Ictinus pays” homage to the spirit of creativity. It depicts one of the leading architects of Ancient Greece, who built the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens and whose reputation is historically one of great innovation. Here, Ictinus is portrayed alongside a genius – a metaphor for his creative spirit – bearing aloft a model of the Parthenon and taking centre stage in the painting.
