About the artwork Ernst Albert Gäumann (1893–1963) was a professor of “special botany” at ETH Zurich from 1927. With this bust, Zurich-based sculptor Otto Charles Bänninger, one of the leading artists of the inter and post-war eras in Switzerland, created a realistic portrait of the professor that typifies his late work. Renowned for his portrait busts, the artist also immortalised Hans Pallmann and Wolfgang Pauli.
