Portrait relief Carl Schröter About the artwork After his postdoctoral studies at the Federal Polytechnic School (now ETH Zurich), Carl Schröter (1855-1939) was appointed as a full professor of special botany at the age of 28 in 1882. His lectures and excursions were extremely popular among students, as he knew how to encourage and inspire them in their own scientific work.
