About the artwork

The agronomist Ernst Laur (1871-1964) completed a degree at the Federal Polytechnic School (now ETH Zurich) in 1893, where he taught as a private lecturer in agricultural policy from 1901 and as a full professor of agriculture from 1908. His main interest was agricultural management, specialising in the modernisation of the farms, and agricultural policy. In the first half of the 20th century, Laur was one of the most influential figures in Swiss public life.
